Florida Trip – Naples

Pretty white sands of Barefoot Beach

Hey all! I missed you while I was on vacation but hopefully a few of my fun picture kept you happy 🙂

The Dr. and I did so much over the course of the 5 days we spent in Florida that I figured I would break it up so my post wasn’t craaaazy long.  Part 1 is the time we spent in Naples, where The Dr.’s dad has a place that we stayed.  So so nice having a free place to stay that also allows us to make our own food so we can save some money for the Keys!

After Yelping and TripAdvisoring I found Barefoot Beach to be the spot for our afternoon nap in the sun!  The beach was beautiful and the weather was absolutely perfect.  Plus I got to touch a Gopher Tortoises.  How fitting, seeing that I’m a Golden Gopher!

AND we saw one, I touched it

After spending part of the day on the beach we decided to go mini-golfing, which was fun and I got a hole in 1!  That felt pretty good, even though The Dr. totally killed me.  It was embarrassing.

Day two in Naples we ventured out to the Corkscrew Sanctuary Swamp Preserve which was AMAZINGLY cool.  I wanted to get there early in the morning so we could see more animals and I am so glad we did! All together we saw: a ton of lizards, a lot of HUGE spiders (shudder), a small raccoon, a lot of really beautiful birds, piliated woodpeckers, and to top it all off? A full-grown, probably 12 foot long alligator!!! It was the best end to our 2.4mile walk around the boardwalk.  Check out some pics 🙂

Just a little guy, growing his tail back

Isn’t it pretty?

Giant water spider… size of a bird. Ish

Big lazy gator

After our fun morning we decided to drive to Marco Island for dinner at Snook Inn, the restaurant we had dinner at on our first trip together 🙂 We watched the sunset as we ate and I snapped this little beauty after getting too close to a pelican!

Pelican wanted nothing to do with me

The rest of our time in Naples was pretty laid back since we knew we would be doing a lot more activities in Key West, but it was a great relaxing way to start our vacation! I’m also becoming much more interested in moving to Florida after The Dr.’s fellowship… I don’t know how much longer I can handle this MN cold! Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3!
